Madison Jay has been a prominent name in the Carolinas for over a decade. The multi-award winning rapper has been consistently releasing quality music and content for years, which has earned him notoriety. It was no question for me that he had to be highlighted for the site debut.
How long have you been doing music?
1) I’ve been doing music for about 25 years now. Professionally tho, I’ve been a music artist for almost 20 years. There was a process in between that to were I became a “professional” tho.
What’s been your biggest accomplishment?
2) My biggest accomplishment is to be honest is being able to have to appreciate and support what I create. Awards, big performances, money, etc all those things are great and I earned every bit of it but none of it would be possible without the people enjoying and gravitating towards what I create.
What’s been your biggest challenge?
3) My biggest challenge has been staying consistent. I like the challenge too. I’ve set a standard of being one of if not the most consistent artist this past decade. I just know it takes more consistency to elevate to the level I’m supposed to be at.
Coming out of the Carolinas, what do you think is keeping artists from getting more notoriety? (DJs, non support, lack of resources, etc)
4) First things first, we gotta remember that the Carolinas isn’t like any other area. Unique, quaint, multicultural, and rich in history. It simply can’t be compared to Atlanta, New York City, Los Angeles, etc. Once you take that comparison away then we can get to the meat and gravy. To be honest we don’t need the music notoriety here. I think once people ‘see the forest past the trees’ they’ll peep the Carolinas have been quietly making more progress in 5 years than probably the last 20 combined.
What about the Carolinas music makes it stand out from the rest?
5) We have legitimate beaches here, legitimate mountain ranges, super diverse land every where you turn. We had a chip on our shoulders that’s been gradually reduced thanks to the rise of the younger generation closing those gaps. Our national family ties keep us connected enough to stay on the pulse everywhere yet keep us grounded to our roots.
Congrats, Madison, on all of your success. I’m looking forward to seeing more of you this year.
